A torsion spring is a helical spring that works by a torsional or rotational motion, the ends of the torsion spring are attached to separate components, which allow flexible objects to store mechanical energy when twisted. Once twisted, the springs apply a torque force in the opposite direction in an amount proportional to the angle at which they are twisted, and as other components rotate around the center of the spring, the spring pulls them back to their original position, creating a torque or rotational force.
Spring ends come in many standard forms, the most common spring legs can be in any position and can actually be bent, hooked, twisted, looped or shaped to suit a custom application.
